Our research in this area

coral in the sea

Current research examines a wide range of modern and ancient geologic problems in the submarine sphere including understanding the physical processes and products of sediment transportation and underwater volcanic eruptions. Biological processes and products are investigated using paleo-environmental analysis of past life in extreme locations. This theme also examines potential future energy sources in the form of gas hydrates.

Specific topic areas include:

  • Marine sedimentary deposits (ancient and modern)
  • Submarine volcanoes
  • Submarine Slopes
  • Marine Geophysics
  • Gas Hydrates
  • Hydrocarbon seeps
  • Organism – Sediment Interactions
